Quality, Loving Care for Small Mammals

What Do I Do If I Found An Animal In Need?

Quality, Loving Care for Small Mammals

Each animal who comes through my door gets the best care that I can provide. Fresh produce, quality formulas made for each species, regular veterinary check-ins, and around-the-clock compassionate care for each little critter!

What Animals We Accept

What Do I Do If I Found An Animal In Need?

Quality, Loving Care for Small Mammals

I take Eastern Cottontail Rabbits of all ages, eyes-open baby squirrels, and adult squirrels. Other small mammals may be accepted on a case-by-case basis based on capacity limits.

I cannot take birds or rabies vector species such as raccoons, skunks, foxes, fishers, and bats.

If you have found any of these animals, contact your local animal control officer or visit mass.gov for the map of wildlife rehabilitators who can help you! Or reach out to me and I will see how I can help!

What Do I Do If I Found An Animal In Need?

First things first, do NOT give them anything to eat or drink!!! That will do more harm than good. We don't see EMTs handing out cheeseburgers to people who are in rough shape, so we don't want to do that to wildlife! Even if they look hungry or thirsty, do not give them a thing! Rehabbers can fix hunger and thirst, but we can't often fix the damage caused by improper feeding!

If it is safe to pick up the animal (consult a rehabber or animal control officer first!), always wear gloves and place the animal in a safe box with air holes or a pet carrier and leave them be until they can be transported for care!

About Us

Meet the Rehabber!

Hey! My name is Jess and I am the founder of Salem Wildlife Rescue and a licensed wildlife rehabilitator in Massachusetts. Salem Wildlife Rescue is run out of my private residence here in Salem, MA. I have loved animals for my whole life and always wanted to make a difference in the world. Saving one animal may not change the world, but it will change the world for that one animal.

A little bit about me: I run this rescue on the side of my full time job. Rehabbing doesn't pay, after all! I am also an education volunteer with Zoo New England.  I have two cats who are my world, Zephyre and Maya! When I'm not rehabilitating wildlife or working, I love learning new things and taking classes, going on little adventures, listening to true crime podcasts, or taking a long walk in IKEA. I have a big, compassionate heart and love and care for every animal who comes through my door, no matter how long they have been a patient with me. If you bring an animal to me, you know that the animal will be in the best and most caring hands!
